For handmade and vintage sellers

Give Etsy product photos a clean, consistent foundation.

Remove distracting room, table, or photo-box backgrounds while keeping the product itself at full resolution. ClearCut is especially handy for catalog consistency: make a transparent master, then place the same cutout into listing graphics, shop banners, and social posts.

Practical workflow

From maker-space photo to reusable cutout.

01

Start with separation

Use even light and leave visible contrast between the item and its original background.

02

Check handmade detail

Zoom around lace, wire, fringe, handles, and translucent packaging; restore any detail the model missed.

03

Export a master

Save a transparent PNG, then reuse it on backgrounds that match your shop identity.

Field guide

Better source photos still matter

Background removal improves consistency, but it cannot recreate detail hidden by blur or harsh shadows. A sharp source photo with soft, even light gives the edge model more information to work with.

Keep honest product colour and scale. The cutout should make the listing easier to understand, not conceal wear, texture, or material details that a buyer needs to judge the item.

Good to know

Questions about this workflow.

Does ClearCut connect to my Etsy shop?

No. It prepares image files locally; you choose what to upload to your shop.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Yes. Transparent PNG is the default export, with white, black, and custom solid backgrounds also available.

Will it work on jewellery or crochet?

Often, but intricate gaps and reflections can need a quick pass with the built-in restore or erase brush.
